I am an AI researcher based in San Francisco. I currently work at OpenAI.

In 2024, I worked on OpenAI o1, a frontier model trained to do chain-of-thought reasoning via reinforcement learning. I gave a video demo of o1-preview for writing puzzles and video game coding, and you can watch a video of OpenAI researchers talking about o1 here.

From 2020 to 2023, I was a research scientist at Google Brain. My work popularized chain-of-thought prompting, instruction tuning, and emergent phenomena.

An invited lecture I gave at Stanford with my colleague Hyung Won Chung is available on Youtube.
